Guide: Scavenging & Loot Optimization
Success in Hex Survival depends on knowing where to find what you need and how to extract the most value from every item.
1. Biome Loot Mastery
Every hex belongs to a specific biome with its own specialized loot pool.
| Target Resource | Primary Biome | Strategic Importance |
|---|---|---|
| Rations | Farm Facility | High-density nutrition. 90% Chance. |
| Clean Water | Oasis | Critical hydration. 90% Chance. |
| Scrap Metal | Ruined City | Core construction material. 85% Chance. |
| Raw Timber | Forest | Structural material for Well/Watchtower. 80% Chance. |
| Hardened Stone | Mountain | Structural material for Bulkhead/Refinery. 90% Chance. |
| Circuit Boards | Electronic Lab | Advanced tech component. 75% Chance. |
| Chemical Sludge | Industrial | Component for fuel refinery. 70% Chance. |
| Ancient Relic | Hidden Vault | Mythic artifact. 100% Chance. |
2. Advanced Salvage (Deconstruction)
Items aren’t just for use; they are a source of materials. With the Salvage skill, you can deconstruct items directly from your inventory.
High-Value Deconstructions
- Functioning Lamp: Yields a 60% chance for a Lamp (empty) and a 30% chance for a Battery.
- Malfunctioning Sensor: Yields a 40% chance for Circuit Boards, a 30% chance for a Battery, and a 10% rare chance for Research Material.
- Damaged Solar Panel: Yields a 30% chance for a Solar Cell, a 50% chance for Copper Wiring, a 30% chance for Scrap Metal, and an 8% rare chance for Circuit Boards.
Rare Bonus Materials
Higher levels of the Salvage skill increase your chance for rare bonus yields (e.g., a Logic Core or Alloy Plate). Always have your specialized Quartermaster handle the deconstruction of rare items to maximize these rolls.
3. Scavenging Efficiency
- Search Chance: The Scavenger’s Eye skill adds +5% per level to your search success. At Lvl 5, your searches are 25% more likely to succeed.
- The AP Cost: While Searching itself is free (0 AP), Movement is expensive (1 AP).
- Strategy: Don’t move just to search. Use the “Highway” to travel quickly to a high-yield biome (like the Farm Facility) and spend your time scavenging there.
- Inventory Buffer: Use the Pack Mule skill (Lvl 3) to carry up to 8 items, reducing the number of return trips to the Base.
- Bulk Scavenging: Drop your low-value junk on the floor of the hex you’re in and only carry high-tier materials back to the Base.
